The much-anticipated Punjabi film 'chal mera  putt 4', starring Amrinder Gill, was released globally on August 1, but not in India. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) did not grant the film a certificate, reportedly due to the involvement of Pakistani actors in the project, leaving fans across India disheartened.

Despite extensive efforts from the production team to secure a release in India, the film remained uncertified until the final hours before its scheduled release. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the filmmakers expressed their disappointment, stating: "The film is releasing worldwide, but unfortunately not in India. We tried everything within our capacity… but some things are beyond control. Thank you for your unwavering support. Your love means the world to us.

This isn’t the first instance of a Punjabi film facing restrictions over Pakistani collaboration. Earlier this year, 'Sardaar Ji 3' starring Diljit Dosanjh was also denied clearance due to the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. Both franchises have earlier enjoyed massive success at the box office.

The backlash against Pakistani involvement in Indian cinema intensified after the Pahalgam terror  attack in May 2025. The statement was perceived as anti-India and sparked widespread outrage, with many accusing the comedian of hurting national sentiments.

In subsequent interviews, Thakur criticised the Indian Punjabi film industry, claiming that around 16 of his films were slated for Indian release but were halted due to boycotts

They said they'd boycott me. I replied, you don't even have the stature to boycott us — we boycott you," Thakur had said.

He further said Pakistani talent was instrumental to the success of Punjabi cinema, estimating that Rs 300-Rs 350 crore worth of investment in the industry has relied on Pakistani actors, especially in scripting and dialogue contributions.
