37 fresh diarrhoea cases reported from Patiala’s Jhill village

Diarrhoea outbreak continues to wreak havoc in Jhill village of the district. As many as 37 fresh cases were reported from the village today. With this, the number of people falling sick due to diarrhoea outbreak at the village rose to 264.

Health officials, however, claimed that the situation is under control because there is evidently a decline in the number of hospitalisations. Only six diarrhoea patients were admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours, said the Health Department.

Notably, 38 villagers have been admitted to hospitals ever since the outbreak was reported on Wednesday. Of 38 patients, 20 have been discharged, while 18 are still undergoing treatment in hospitals here.

The Patiala Civil Surgeon, along with other officials, visited Jhill village and met residents, who had diarrhoea symptoms. He said five teams of health officials were holding group meetings in the village to create awareness about the disease.Notably, 38 villagers have been admitted to hospitals ever since the outbreak was reported on Wednesday. The health officials said lab reports of water samples were being awaited. However, stool samples of the diarrhoea patients ruled out the role of cholera in the diarrhoea outbreak.
